Claims
What is claimed is:
1. A formulation for treating diabetes comprising:
-
at least one processed Morinda citrifolia product present in an amount between about 0.01 and 100 percent by weight.
2. The formulation of claim 1, wherein said processed Morinda citrifolia product comprises a processed Morinda citrifolia selected from a list consisting of: extract from the leaves of Morinda citrifolia, leaf hot water extract present in an amount by weight between about 0.1 and 50 percent, processed Morinda citrifolia leaf ethanol extract present in an amount by weight between about 0.1 and 50 percent, processed Morinda citrifolia leaf steam distillation extract present in an amount by weight between about 0.1 and 50 percent, Morinda citrifolia fruit juice, Morinda citrifolia puree juice, Morinda citrifolia puree juice concentrate, Morinda citrifolia fruit juice concentrate, and Morinda citrifolia dietary fiber.
3. The formulation of claim 1, wherein said processed Morinda citrifolia product of said nutraceutical formulation further comprises an active ingredient Quercetin present in an amount between about 0.1 and 10 percent by weight.
4. The formulation of claim 3, wherein said processed Morinda citrifolia product further comprises Rutin, wherein said Rutin is present in an amount between about 0.1 and 10 percent by weight, as an additional active ingredient that synergistically works with said Quercetin to treat said diabetes and its associated symptoms.
5. The formulation of claim 1, wherein said formulation is administered to a patient in a way selected from a list consisting of orally, intravenously, and systemically.
6. The formulation of claim 1, wherein said nutraceutical comprises at least one other ingredient selected from the group consisting of processed Morinda citrifolia products, food supplements, dietary supplements, other fruit juices, other natural ingredients, and flavorings.
7. A method for enhancing insulin release and increasing insulin levels in a mammal, the method comprising:

ingesting a safe, pre-determined amount of a formulation comprised of at least one processed Morinda citrifolia product at a safe, pre-determined frequency, for a safe-pre-determined duration, wherein in said formulation binds P2Y receptors and increases cAMP production.
8. The method of claim 7, wherein said processed Morinda citrifolia product comprises at least one processed Morinda citrifolia product selected from a list consisting of: extract from the leaves of Morinda citrifolia, leaf hot water extract present in an amount by weight between about 0.1 and 50 percent, processed Morinda citrifolia leaf ethanol extract present in an amount by weight between about 0.1 and 50 percent, processed Morinda citrifolia leaf steam distillation extract present in an amount by weight between about 0.1 and 50 percent, Morinda citrifolia fruit juice, Morinda citrifolia puree juice, Morinda citrifolia puree juice concentrate, Morinda citrifolia fruit juice concentrate, and Morinda citrifolia dietary fiber.
9. The method of claim 7, further comprising the step of concurrently administering said formulation with a diabetes medication designed to treat diabetes and its associated conditions, wherein said formulation increases the efficacy of said diabetes medication.
10. The method of claim 7, wherein said safe, pre-determined amount is between about one teaspoon and about two ounces.
11. The method of claim 7, wherein said safe, pre-determined frequency comprises at least two times per day on an empty stomach.
12. The method of claim 7, wherein said safe, pre-determined frequency comprises consumption prior to the consumption of a meal
13. The method of claim 7, wherein said safe, pre-determined duration of time comprises at least three consecutive days.
14. The method of claim 7, wherein said nutraceutical is administered in an amount between about 1 teaspoon and 2 ounces at least twice daily on an empty stomach each day.
15. A method for treating diabetes comprising the steps of:
-
obtaining a processed Morinda citrifolia extract comprising the steps of:
-
freezing one or more Morinda citrifolia leaves;
-
defrosting said Morinda citrifolia leaves;
-
chopping said Morinda citrifolia leaves into small pieces;
-
adding an identified amount of solvent to said Morinda citrifolia leaves to obtain a solution;
-
letting said solution stand for an identified period of time;
-
removing any solids in said solution by centrifugation to obtain a supernatant solution;
-
freeze-drying said supernatant solution to obtain said processed Morinda citrifolia extract;
-
preparing a nutraceutical formulation comprising said processed Morinda citrifolia extract; and
-
administering said nutraceutical to a patient diagnosed with diabetes.
16. The method of claim 15, wherein the extract is from Morinda citrifolia leaves.
17. The method of claim 15, wherein the solvent is at least one of the solvents selected from a list comprised of: hot water, ethanol, or steam.
18. A method for inhibiting phosphodiesterase 3 (PDE3), comprising the administration of at least one Morinda citrifolia product at appropriately timed intervals.
19. A method for increasing cyclic Adenosine Monophosphate (cAMP) levels in beta cells, comprising the administration of at least one Morinda citrifolia product at appropriately timed intervals.
20. A method for inhibiting Protein-tyrosine phosphatase 1B (PTP1B), comprising the administration of at least one Morinda citrifolia product at appropriately timed intervals.
21. A method for countering the effects of insulin negative regulators, comprising the administration of at least one Morinda citrifolia product at appropriately timed intervals.
22. A method for inhibition of the enzyme aldose reductase, comprising the administration of at least one Morinda citrifolia product at appropriately timed intervals.
23. A method for preventing and treating diabetes and related conditions, comprising the administration of at least one Morinda citrifolia product at appropriately timed intervals.
24. The method of claim 23, wherein the method is designed to treat Type II diabetes.
25. The method of claim 24, wherein the treatment of conditions is comprised of regulating blood sugar levels or regulating insulin production.
